The Syrian media further quoted Faisal Mekdad as saying in his joint press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov that the military forces of Turkey must definitely end occupation of some parts of Syria, end their support for terrorist groups, and stop interfering in Syria’s internal affairs.
He said that resuming the Syria-Turkey relations depends on respecting the Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and most important of all, ending their occupation of some parts of Syria.
The Syrian top diplomat said the Syrians respect the Iranian and Russian governments’ efforts for reconciliation between Syria and Turkey, but emphasize there are rights that need to be respected based on mutual respect, such as respecting national sovereignty, ending occupation, and refraining from interference on our internal affairs.
Focusing on Al-Jazeera region of Syria, Mekdad said that resolving the problem about that region, too, needs to be based on international regulation, adding that The Middle East peace cannot be achieved without the exit of the occupying US forces from Syria.
He said that the occupier US forces' support for the separatist militants in the northeast side of the country has led to destroying the Syrian national economy, asking the Syrian militants who rely on the US occupiers not to trust Washington, and stand side by side with their own nation and army.
Lavrov, too, said that it is possible to return to the 1998 agreement between Syria and Turkey.
He said that Moscow condemns any country’s intervention in Syria’s affairs, stressing that the Syrian crisis must be resolved diplomatically.
